Learning Spaces give you the flexibility to create environments for learning that meet the needs of both your curriculum and your learners. These dynamic Spaces are essentially stand-alone web sites that exist within a Saywire community offering social, collaborative, and communicative aspects for any project or activity resulting in a “communities within a community” approach.
Choose the Features
You Want to Use
Building a new Learning Space is a quick and simple process that requires no prior experience or coding knowledge. Using our wizard, you’ll be on your way to enjoying your new Learning Space in just a few easy steps. Choose from a variety of built-in tools such as blogs or discussions and add them to your Space simply by checking a box. Spaces eliminate the hassle of using multiple different applications for things like discussions, projects, or sharing content, allowing you to focus on what’s really important.
Private or Public?
Publishing Your Space
Once you’ve chosen the features you want to use, it’s time to publish your Space. Spaces can be published to a specific group of people, the entire community – even connected communities. You can optionally publish Spaces as faculty-only, making them perfect for professional development or for creating PLC’s and PLN’s within your Saywire community. Membership to Spaces is managed by our Groups feature, which makes managing dynamic groups of people incredibly easy.
Starting Discussions &
Once your Space is published, you can add content, start discussions, embed media – the sky’s the limit. Saywire’s Learning Spaces give you total control to setup your Space to suit your needs. Those new to online collaboration or social tools may want to start small with a simple blog or a discussion board. Others with more experience can turn everything on and enjoy unlimited usage of the Space features, including unlimited blogs, wikis, threads, discussion boards, chat rooms and more.
As your Space’s activity increases, you’ll need to keep track of new posts, recent comments, and edits to the discussions and projects created within your Space(s). Saywire automatically keeps an eye out for recent activity in the Spaces you own or subscribe to, as well as the people that you follow and reports it back to you in a few different ways. The most important one is called the Activity Wire, shown below.
Activity Wires are similar to RSS feeds to the people and places you interact with around your community. Activity Wires can be found on Learning Spaces, Member Profiles, and your Dashboard.
Events added to calendars in Learning Spaces will automatically show up on the personal calendar for every member who subscribes to a Space, insuring that important events and activities will never be missed.
